Rezum
Rezum is a minimally invasive treatment that uses water vapor to reduce the size of an enlarged prostate in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
This procedure is based on the controlled injection of steam directly into the hyperplastic prostate tissue, causing cell denaturation and subsequent absorption by the body. This allows the urethra to be unblocked and urinary flow to be restored without the need for surgery.
What is it used for?
Rezum is indicated for patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia who present symptoms such as:
- Difficulty urinating or weak urinary stream.
- Increased urinary frequency, especially at night (nocturia).
- Sensation of incomplete bladder emptying.
- Interrupted urination or the need to strain when urinating.
- Patients who wish to avoid long-term use of medication or more invasive treatments.
- Patients who wish to preserve ejaculation.
Main benefits
- Outpatient procedure → Does not require hospitalization or general anesthesia; performed in just a few minutes.
- Fewer side effects → Unlike surgery, it does not affect erectile function or ejaculation.
- Fast recovery → Urinary symptoms improve within a few days and patients can quickly return to their normal activities.
- No need for long-term medication → Avoids dependency on drugs such as alpha-blockers or 5-alpha reductase inhibitors.
- Long-lasting results → The effects of Rezum can last for several years, significantly improving quality of life.
- Does not limit future treatments → Does not prevent or complicate the use of another technique if, over time, the prostate grows again and causes urinary symptoms.
